About This Blog

meth freeMy name, as the URL indicates, is Andy Nicastro. I’m a Los Angeles based writer, graphic designer and former Producer. Above all, however, I am a recovering alcoholic and crystal meth addict. Regardless of how I earn a living, I will always be a recovering alcoholic and crystal meth addict.

Today, I am grateful for  my husband, my family, my friends and my re-discovered faith. grateful for sobriety. grateful to be alive.   I feel joy every day now, so don’t let the darkness in some of these stories make you think otherwise. Life in recovery is beautiful. I write dark so I can live light.

  1. Andy, we met in January 1999 because of the survivors of the Shoah project.
I still keep you close to my heart for driving through the city and playing Madona and Alinis Morissette:

Hugs & kiisses for you & Patrick,

  2. Dual diagnoses. You mailed it.

  3. I ran across your FB page and saw your birthday wish, I’m not sure of your birth date and recovery date but I wanted to check your blog. Thanks. I too am a recovering method addict. I lives in San Diego but left to go home to Minnesota. Broke, wrecked teeth, unemployed, gay, over 40 and starting over living with my Mom. Humbling. Now back working ft, teeth gone, dentures in and off meth also in my own place to live. Addictions a bitch. Godspeed.

    G K.

    • It certainly is…I’m celebrating a year after ten years of trying on July 7th. So glad you’re doing well too. Yes, it’s as they say: cunning, baffling and fucking powerful. All my best, Andy

  4. Thank you Andy for your honesty & eloquence. Shining the light in such a dark place. Helping those of us who do not understand the seductive draw of mind & body altering substances. Your words open up a new understanding that I will be sharing with my friends, family, and students. Your words can reach people who don’t even realize they need the message. Thank you again. And give Patrick a hug for me.
